Yellowstone to Yukon

The Yellowstone to Yukon Conservation Initiative is a joint Canada-US project attempting to create a corridor between Yellowstone National Park and the Yukon Territory. The main goal is to maintain a wildlife habitat connection between the two regions that is healthy enough to independently support the native wildlife.

The connected region is 1,988 miles long, 310-496 miles wide, and covers an area of 502,000 square miles.

The Y2YCI is focusing its efforts on an umbrella approach, using the strength of three keystone populations as indicators for biodiversity. The three being grizzly bears, birds and fish. In this blog, I will address the methods for which grizzly bears are being preserved and the impact their populations have on the project as a whole.
